I work as a fashion stylist and for me good grooming is a must.  This is especially true when it comes to unwanted hair, which is why my Braun S270 X’elle Body System Epilator is my favorite beauty tool.  Epilators remove hairs at the root instead of shaving them off halfway through, leaving you with smoother and silkier skin.  The X’elle uses 40 tweezers to quickly remove hair with little discomfort. The active massagers that are built into the machine stimulate your skin before and after hair is removed, reducing discomfort.  There’s a built-in smartlight that highlights any missed hairs.   If you don’t feel like epilating on a particular day, the unit comes with a shaver head and OptiTrim attachment to trim and maintain your skin.   There are two speeds on the epilator, allowing you to remove hair at your own pace.  It’s well designed, comfortable to hold, and has reduced the amount of time and money I spend on waxing and shaving.

Pros:

  • High Number of Tweezers: Many other epilators I’ve come across have about twenty tweezers on their heads.  The X’elle has double that, which means it works a lot more quickly.  I don’t have much time to spare, so being able to work smarter makes my routine go along that much more smoothly.
  • Smartlight: I just love this smartlight.  It highlights so many hairs that I had no idea existed.  I’ve found strays on the inside of my knee, on my hands, and even on my toes.  It makes me that much more confident that I’m getting a great shave whenever I use this machine.
  • Active Massagers: I’m used to the discomfort that goes hand in hand with hair removal, but I was surprised at how little using this machine hurt.  I’m sure it has a lot to do with the active massagers.  Having the skin soothed after the hair is plucked is a great way to go, especially if you’re not used to how epilators can feel.
  • Includes a Shaver Head: Sometimes you just don’t feel like using an epilator.  I definitely get that way sometimes, so having the option to switch to a shaver head is a huge bonus for me.  It’s easy to switch out the heads, and both the shaver and the trimmer work very well.  While they don’t get my legs quite as smooth as the epilator does, they’re a great alternative on a once in a while basis.

Cons:

  • Cord Could Be Longer: I’m not overly impressed with the length of the cord.  It’s so short that you have to sit right up next to the wall in order to use it comfortably.  However, it’s not too difficult to just attach an extension cord to it, which is what I usually end up doing.
  • Not for Sensitive Skin: I have a pretty high tolerance for hair plucking, but if you haven’t had experience with waxing before you may find this epilator a little too much for you.  The active massagers do make it more comfortable than other epilators, though, and if you give it a try at a low speed right after a hot shower the pain shouldn’t be too bad.

I’d much rather use an epilator than shave every day, and the X’elle lets me do just that.  The forty tweezers make short work of the hair on my legs, arms, and bikini area.  I love having a light that shows me any hairs I missed, and the additional shaver head is great for when I’m in a rush.  It’s a high quality device that removes hair with less pain than many epilators.  If you’re sick of shaving every day and want a longer lasting solution, you’ll love this device.
